With the perfect storm hitting the traditional asset classes, investors were increasingly driven to diversify their portfolios into alternative assets. Hedge funds have grown in popularity over the last decade until their recent scrutiny and muted returns and high fees, causing some investors to explore the more private side of alternatives. Institutions seemed to have regained confidence in illiquid asset classes but the goal of offsetting market volatility and generating higher returns during periods of low yields, making investors wonder how far have we really come?
